STOW — The Nashoba Regional School Committee approved a one-year food services contract with Whitson's Nutrition LLC by a 6-3 vote. Vice Chair Scott moved the contract, which authorizes Superintendent Downing to finalize terms, while members Jillian, Lexi and Joel voted no. Staff member Ross told the committee the deal carries a $375,000 "guaranteed return" to the district, which already runs a $127,000 profit in food services.
Nashoba Regional Education Association president Kevin Keaveney and Bolton parent John Carlin urged a no vote during public comment, with Carlin saying the savings looked implausible given an estimated $80,000 management fee to Whitson's. Member Jillian said "we are certainly not signing this contract in blood," while Scott countered the district is "not locked into this relationship." The committee also voted 9-0 to enter executive session beforehand to discuss Unit C collective bargaining implications.
