Select Board denies police grievance over Special Officer position elimination

Stow Select Board unanimously denies grievance from two retired police officers. Bill Bosworth and Darren Thraen, both near age 65, challenged Police Chief Michael Sallese's elimination of the Special Officer position and imposition of new shift-work requirements; the Chief cited approximately $4,300 in annual training costs against less than $1,500 in administrative revenue generated since 2024. Chair Megan Birch-McMichael, Member JT Toole, Member Dan Petersen, and Member Hector Constantzos voted to uphold the Chief's authority.
The Board also ratified Lieutenant Kellie Barhight's three-year employment contract and unanimously approved updated police policies on sergeant promotions and domestic violence response incorporating 2025 state best practices.
