Board of Assessors Approves 20-Year Solar Panel Tax Exemption

STOW — Board of Assessors approves $1.15M in motor vehicle excise and solar tax exemption. Chair Cindy Cummings, Member Thomas Ryan, and Member Leonard Golder voted unanimously on February 9 to grant a 20-year exemption for residential solar rooftop facilities not exceeding 125 percent of annual electricity needs. The board signed motor vehicle excise warrants of $1,150,720.18 for first-quarter 2026 and approved supplemental real estate commitments.
Motor vehicle and boat excise abatements totaling more than $4,500 across three months were approved. The board also transferred $250,000 from the Overlay Account to Overlay Surplus and authorized Kerry Bernard, the assessor's clerk, to sign abatement certificates.
